Welcome
On behalf of
the Australian Kyokushin Karate
Association, the Australian Branch Chiefs, namely Shihan
Gary Viccars, Shihan Tony Bowden, and Sensei Darren Jordan, the
Tournament Organizing Committee and I, it gives me great pleasure
to announce that Australia has been given the honour of hosting
the 2nd Karate World Cup. The tournament
will be held on the Sat 4th & Sun 5th November 2006.
This event will
no doubt be the greatest karate tournament ever held in Australia
and it is with great excitement that we in Australia
are looking forward to hosting this truly international event. We
are expecting over 40 countries will take part with over 180 fighters
participating over the two day event. We anticipate that we’ll
see some of the world’s most proficient full-contact karate
fighters battling it out for this prestigious tournament. Spectators
will be treated to great displays of skill, speed and power during
this event.
The organizing
committee would like to invite all Kyokushin fighters to this tournament.
There will be three weight divisions (light, middle and heavy) for
both male and female competitors. It will be a knock-out competition
where only the winners will move to the next round. This will culminate
in the final round where the last two proven winners will fight
it out for the World Cup.
The World Cup
will be held in the Sydney
Entertainment Centre, which is one of Australia’s
premier venues. The Sydney Entertainment Centre is located in the
heart of the city of Sydney
and next to the Chinatown,
and close to all the main attractions that Sydney has to offer.
Visitors will not be disappointed.
Sunny, sexy
and sophisticated, Sydney is the shining star of the southern hemisphere.
The white-sailed Sydney
Opera House, caught mid-billow over the waters of Sydney
Cove, and the Sydney
Harbour Bridge are the pride and joy, but there's far
more on offer. Discover the harbour, the city's historic enclaves,
restaurants and cafes, beaches, museums and art galleries, and the
national parks and wildlife within the city and on its fringes.
A free-spirited
and vibrant city, Sydney is built around one of the world's most
beautiful harbours, with more than 70 sparkling beaches in easy
reach of its cosmopolitan heart.
Enjoy its legendary
beauty, its laid-back outdoor lifestyle and icons such as the Sydney
Opera House, the graceful span of the Harbour Bridge
and the golden sands of Bondi.
The centre is
surprisingly compact and served by an efficient public transport
service - so it's easy to pack a lot into a day.
Most visitors
start off exploring the
Rocks, the harbourside quarter where Sydney began.
Today, it's an area of narrow lanes, boutiques, historic cottages,
top hotels and restaurants, historic pubs and the Sydney
Harbour Bridge.
Nearby is Circular
Quay, where you can take a ferry ride across the harbour
to the attractive beachside suburb of Manly,
or to dozens of other destinations.
Another area
not to be missed is the entertainment centre of Darling
Harbour, with its museums, eateries, pubs and clubs.
It has one of the world's largest aquariums. Watch out for the three-metre-long
sharks as you walk through tunnels moulded into the giant tanks.
Elsewhere you'll
find great nightlife - in Kings
Cross and the trendy suburb of Paddington,
also known for its stately Victorian houses and glamorous boutiques.
Then there are
the food emporiums of Chinatown,
the vivid street life and inexpensive eateries of inner-city Newtown,
and fabulous shopping in the city centre.
Other attractions
include the Royal Botanic Gardens, a climb to the top of the Harbour
Bridge, and bush walks through Sydney
Harbour National Park. Add on a boat tour of the harbour,
or a cruise to the site
of the Sydney Olympic Games, and you'll be sorry to
leave.
